What this is

BasketWise is a web application for recording grocery receipts and analysing what you have paid. It is provided as it is, without a service level, and it is not a commercial product with a support contract behind it.

Accounts

An account is created the first time you sign in with Google. An account is for one person or one household. You are responsible for keeping your password to yourself, and for what happens under your account.

An account may be closed if it is used to break the law, to attack the service or other users, or to upload material that is not a receipt.

Your data is yours

Your receipts and the history built from them belong to you. Uploading them grants no ownership and no licence to use them for anything beyond running the service for you. You can export everything at any time and ask for it to be deleted.

Paid plans

Paid plans are billed monthly in advance through Stripe, at the price shown including VAT. Cancelling keeps your paid features until the end of the period you have already paid for, after which the account moves to the free plan. No receipt or history is ever deleted because a subscription ended or a payment failed.

Prices may change. An existing subscription keeps its price until the change is announced and the next period begins.

Your right to withdraw, and giving it up

Buying a subscription online gives you a fourteen-day right to withdraw under EU consumer rules. Because BasketWise starts working the moment you pay, checkout asks you to agree that we begin at once and that doing so ends that right. You are told this before you pay, not afterwards, and you have to tick it yourself.

Giving up the withdrawal right is not the same as being locked in. You can cancel whenever you like. Cancelling keeps your paid features until the end of the period you have already paid for, after which the account moves to the free plan and nothing is deleted.

If you delete your account instead, the subscription is cancelled immediately and unused time in the current period is not refunded automatically. The deletion screen says so before you confirm.

What is not promised

Availability is not guaranteed. The service runs on a single server and may be unavailable during maintenance or because something broke.

Accuracy is not guaranteed either, and this matters more. Receipts are read by an automated system that makes mistakes, which is why nothing is saved until you have checked it. The figures BasketWise shows are only as good as the receipts you confirmed, and they are for your own information rather than for accounting, tax or any other official purpose.

Backups are taken, but you should not treat BasketWise as the only copy of anything you cannot lose.

What BasketWise does not touch

It has no connection to any bank, card or payment system beyond Stripe's own checkout. It cannot see a bank transaction, move money, or make a purchase on your behalf. It reads receipts you give it, and that is the whole of its reach.

Advertising

Some accounts are shown advertising. Where it appears it is marked as such. It is never based on your grocery data, and advertisers never receive your purchase history.

Ending it

You may stop using BasketWise whenever you like and ask for your account and data to be deleted. The service itself may be discontinued, in which case there will be notice and an opportunity to export everything first.

Changes to these terms

If these terms change, the change will be visible here. Continuing to use the service after a change means accepting it.
